Under What Circumstances Will Insurance Cover Part Or All Of A Rhinoplasty?
My friend and i were talking about rhinoplastys and she said that her insurance actually cover part of hers. She said that she had deviated septums or somthing like that.
I have been intrested in getting a rhinoplasty done becaue i think that my nose is to wide, i have a dent in my bridge where a clay vase fell on my nose, i have a small natural bump that i would like to smooth out, and my family thinks that my nose was actually broken one time but i was never able to get it checked out at a hospital so we don’t know for sure.
I also have bad allergies and trouble breathing.
Does anyone know the circumstances that my insurance will help cover the cost or if any of the things i just pointed out will be included in the list?
Also, if my insurance will cover part of it what parts would i have to pay for myself?
ps
i know that the insurance won’t cover the cosmetic part of the surgery but if i’m already under the knife does any know if i can just get the other stuff taken care of while i’m there
and does anyone have a ball park estimate of the cost?

The insurance will cover reconstructive surgery if it appears that your trouble breathing is due to an injury. You would need to see a plastic surgeon for a consultation and then he would file with the insurance company. My daughter slipped and fell in a tiled shower in her college dorm and smashed her nose to bits. She was taken to the ER so it was a documented accident. The surgeon had to pick pieces of bone out of her sinuses. She would have had trouble breathing for the rest of her life without the surgery. At the same time, he made some cosmetic changes to her nose, such as narrowing the bridge & tip of her nose. Most plastic surgeons will do the cosmetic work at the same time they are doing the surgery. Our insurance covered everything and it was around $15,000 beyond deductible 2 years ago. She spent the 23 hours in the hospital following the surgery as she had to have oxygen so it still counted as "out patient". First thing, go see a plastic surgeon and get a consultation.
IF you have to have your nose removed or partially removed due to cancer of some type, then the insurance will pay for RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY.
No one here can accurately answer your question, because it will all be decided by your insurance company.
If there is medical necessity for a procedure, your insurance will cover it. Obviously you understand that the plan does not cover anything that is deemed cosmetic or not medically necessary.
You need to ask your surgeon to file a pre-determination with your insurance company. That way, you’ll find out exactly what – if anything – your plan will pay.
